ABOARD
USS ENTERPRISE, At Sea (NNS) Sept 29, 2003 Medal
of Honor recipient Marine Sgt. Alfredo Gonzalez never lived to read
the citation accompanying his medal. The wounds he received in the
Vietnam War during the initial phase of Operation Hue City were fatal.
Today, his legacy sails with the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) Carrier Strike
Group aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG 66). The
Navy and Marine Corps have a long tradition of honoring their own,
and this month, Gonzalez heritage is celebrated nationwide.
