Hello, and Happy Holidays. On behalf of all Americans, President Bush and I thank you for your service to our nation. And we salute your devotion to the values of duty, honor and country. I know I speak for all Americans when I say we’re proud of you.

As Americans celebrate the holiday season, we know that for you this is a season of separation from friends and loved ones. Your time away from your families helps guarantee that America’s families can be safe at home. While you are deployed, we feel you presence across the homeland – in our schools and churches, in the news, and especially in the flags that wave on countless homes, buildings and cars.

Families display pictures of their loved ones in uniform. Children make cards and draw pictures of soldiers, pilots and sailors, who, even by a child’s hand, show valor and courage. In the news and in our mail young people are saying that when they grow up they want to be just like you – America’s heroes.

President Bush and I pray for the safety and the success of your mission. We join a proud and grateful nation in sending holiday wishes to each one of you. God bless you, and God bless America.
