Holiday Message from Air Force Gen. Richard Myers

Since Sept. 11th, our nation has rediscovered the many blessings that we Americans are fortunate to enjoy. And it's not surprising that during this holiday season, Americans count you — the men and women of our armed forces — among those blessings.

Their heartfelt appreciation for your sacrifices and your dedication and your distinguished service makes that clear. All soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and their families can share a sense of pride in giving the gift of service. It's that service that safeguards our freedom around the world.

This precious gift doesn't come easy. It’s hard to be away from home, family and loved ones, especially during the holidays. It's also hard on families that are left behind. The important job you do has earned a special place in the hearts and minds of Americans. They find strength in your courage and inspiration in your sacrifices.

On behalf of the Joint Chiefs and my wife, Mary Jo, please accept our best holiday wishes to you and your families. And thank you for all you do in serving this great nation of ours.
