Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates delivers remarks at 1 p.m. EDT to the Association of the United. States Army at the Washington Convention Center (Ballroom 3rd Floor) 801 Mt. Vernon Place, Washington, D.C.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England has no public or media events on his schedule.

David S.C. Chu, the under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness will brief the news media at 9:30 a.m. EDT, on Oct. 10 in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an end of fiscal year update on recruiting and retention in the military services.  See press advisory for details.

Commander, European Command, Gen. Bantz Craddock will conduct a press briefing on Africa Command and European Command at 1 p.m. EDT,  in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
