Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon are in Washington. There are no public or media events on their schedules.

Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig departed yesterday for the People's Republic of China, where he will meet with Chinese military leaders. See the press advisory for details.

Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Bernard D. Rostker will host the Department of Defense's Awards to Outstanding Employees with Disabilities today at 2:30 p.m. today in the Pentagon auditorium, room 5A1070. See the press advisory for details.

The next regular DoD news briefing will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

Pacific Reach 2000, a cooperative regional submarine rescue exercise in the Pacific, continues through Oct. 14. For details see the Seventh Fleet news release.
