Today in the Department of Defense, Monday, Oct. 23, 2000

Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon are in Washington today. There are no public or media events on their schedules.

Red Ribbon Week, showcasing a series of anti-drug awareness and educational activities in American neighborhoods and schools, begins today with an opening ceremony and awards presentation at 11 a.m. in the Pentagon.

The next Department of Defense news briefing will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 1:30 p.m. in the DoD briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Kenneth H. Bacon, assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

The Combined Federal Campaign is now in progress throughout the Department of Defense.

The department's Legislative Affairs Office maintains a separate Congressional Schedule of Events.
