Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates will receive the 2007 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service Friday, 26 Oct., at Reed Arena on the Texas A&M Campus, College Station, Texas.  President Bush will present the award.  Following presentation of the award, which starts at 5 p.m. local(Central) time, Secretary Gates will make remarks.  Media interested in attending contact Nancy Newman nnewman@gbplc.tamu.edu

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England has no public or media events on his schedule.

Army Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon, commander of Multinational Division-North and the 25th Infantry Division,will brief live from Iraq at 9 a.m. EDT, Oct. 26, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.   Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
