Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn have no public or media events on their schedules.

Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen will welcome the Chief of Defense of UAE at a full honors ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. EDT at the River Entrance Parade Ground.  Media contact is Jennifer Harrington or Rick Ecker at (703) 697-4272.

Commander Marine Corps Systems Command Brig. Gen. Michael Brogan and Director, Joint Rapid Acquisition Cell Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, & Logistics Tom Dee testify at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee on the Department of Defense’s Rapid Acquisition Process at 8 a.m. EDT in room 2261 Rayburn House Office Building. 

Acting Director, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Health Protection Craig Postlewaite testifies at a hearing of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs on DOD and VA response to military exposures at 9:30 a.m. EDT in room 562 Dirksen Senate Office Building. 

Army Col. Tobin L. Green, commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, will brief live from Iraq at 10 a.m. EDT, Oct. 8, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
