Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England have no public or media events on their schedules.

Army Col. Philip Battaglia, commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division will brief live from Iraq at 10 a.m. EDT, Oct. 9, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.  
 
Federal Voting Assistance Program Director Polli Brunelli will brief the news media today at 2 p.m. EDT in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973, to discuss recent efforts to educate and inform overseas and military voters and expedite delivery of ballots.
