Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn have no public or media events on their schedules.  

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus will announce the name of the 13th Lewis and Clark-class Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ship at the 26th Annual Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Symposium Lecture Series, Hamer Institute, Jackson State University, Jackson, Miss.  The announcement will take place at noon on Friday, October 9, 2009, 3rd Floor of the New Student Center, Jackson State University.  Media interested in covering the announcement should contact Tommiea P.
