Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon are in Washington. There are no media or public events on their schedules.

The background briefing originally scheduled for today at 3 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio has been postponed. Watch for an updated advisory with the new date and time.

The Naval War College's annual Professional Ethics Conference is being held today and tomorrow in Newport, R.I. The theme for this year's conference is "Traditional Military Virtues." Media interested in covering the conference may call (401) 841-2220.

The next regular Department of Defense news briefing will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Kenneth H. Bacon, assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

The Combined Federal Campaign is now in progress throughout the Department of Defense.

The department's Legislative Affairs Office maintains a separate Congressional Schedule of Events.
