Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen is traveling today.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington today. There are no media or public events on his schedule.

The Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new facility today at 2 p.m. at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. See the advisory for details.

National Strategies and Capabilities for a Changing World is the theme of Fletcher Conference 2000, a two-day conference hosted by the Army, beginning today in Arlington, Va.

The next Department of Defense news briefing will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

The Department of Defense is participating in the Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 16. "Commit to quit" for at least one day.

The Combined Federal Campaign is now in progress throughout the Department of Defense.

The department's Legislative Affairs Office maintains a separate Congressional Schedule of Events.

COMMAND SGT. MAJ. A. FRANK LEVER III NAMED ARMY NATIONAL GUARD COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR Command Sgt. Maj. A. Frank Lever III has been selected to become the new command sergeant major and senior enlisted advisor for the Army National Guard.
