Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates has no public or media events on his schedule.
 

Richard Schaeffer, director, Information Assurance Directorate, National Security Agency, testifies at a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Terrorism, on preventing terrorist attacks and protecting privacy in cyberspace at 10 a.m. EST in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

 

Vicki Huddleston, deputy assistant secretary for Africa, testifies at a hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on U.S. counterterrorism priorities and strategy across Africa’s Sahel region at 10:30 a.m. EST in Room 419 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

 

Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli will address the current state of the Army's Suicide Prevention efforts, and discuss ongoing initiatives in the Pentagon (Room 2E973) at 11 a.m. EST.  For more information (or for media without Pentagon building passes wishing to attend), please call Staff Sgt. Army Col. Mark R. Stammer, commander of the 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (Multi-National Division-West), will brief live via satellite from Iraq at 10 a.m. EST in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call 703-697-5131 for escort into the building.
