Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld hosts an honor cordon to welcome Afghan Minister of Defense Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak to the Pentagon today at 12:00 noon EST. The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon Mall Entrance. Media must be at the Pentagon North Parking Entrance no later than 11:30 a.m. EDT for escort to the cordon.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England has no publilc or media events on his schedule.

Army Lt. Gen. Karl Eikenberry, commanding general of Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan, and Afghan Minister of Defense Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak will conduct a news briefing at 1:30 p.m. EST, in the DoD Briefing Studio, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an update of ongoing security and military operations in Afghanistan.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
