Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen leaves Washington today to begin a holiday visit to U.S. forces overseas. See the news release for details.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Stan Soloway, deputy under secretary of Defense for Acquisition Reform will conduct briefing on the strategic supplier alliance today at 9 a.m. in the DoD briefing studio, Pentagon room 2E781. See the event web site (no longer available) for details.

The U.S. Army School of the Americas (USARSA), located at Fort Benning, Ga., closes today at 10 a.m. after 54 years of service. See the Army release (no longer available) for details.

The next regular DoD news briefing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 1:30 p.m. in the DoD briefing studio, Pentagon room 2E781. The briefer will be Kenneth H. Bacon, assistant secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.

The Combined Federal Campaign is now in progress throughout the Department of Defense.

The department's Legislative Affairs Office maintains a separate Congressional Schedule of Events.
