Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld hosts an honor cordon to welcome Afghan President Hamid Karzai to the Pentagon at 4:30 p.m. EST. The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance. Media must be at the River Entrance no later than 4 p.m. EST for the cordon

Rumsfeld and Karzai conduct a joint media availability at 5:15 p.m. EST in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E781. Media without a Pentagon building pass interested in covering this event must have proof of press affiliation and two forms of photo identification and should be at the North Parking Entrance by 4:45 p.m. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz is in Washington. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

A senior Defense official will conduct a background briefing on Afghanistan reconstruction at 3:00 p.m. in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E781.
