Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates hosts an honor cordon to welcome Albanian Minister of Defense Gazmend Oketa to the Pentagon today at 2:30 p.m. EDT.  The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the Pentagon River Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort to the cordon.

Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn has no public or media events on his schedule.

The Senate Armed Services Committee considers the nominations of  Andrew C. Weber, to be Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Chemical and Biological Defense Programs, Paul N. Stockton, to be Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Americas’ Security Affairs, Thomas R. Lamont, to be Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs and Charles A. Blanchard, to be General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force at 10 a.m. EDT in room SH-216, Hart Senate Office Building.  The nominees will be present.

 

Secretary of the United States Army Preston M. "Pete" Geren III and Chief of Staff U.S. Army Gen. George W. Casey Jr testify at a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Committee-Defense on Fiscal Year 2010 Army Budget Overview at 10:30 a.m. EDT in room Dirksen 192.

 

Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations and Housing) Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations and Environment) Joseph F. Calcara and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment Kathleen I. Ferguson testify at a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Committee-Military Construction on Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Request for the Army and Air Force at 2:30 p.m. EDT in room Dirksen 124.

 

The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works considers the nomination of Jo-Ellen Darcy, to be Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), Department of the Army at 2:30 p.m. EDT in EPW Hearing Room - 406 Dirksen.
