Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Michael G. Mullen testify at a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Defense Authorization Request for Fiscal Year 2010 and the Future Years Defense Program at 9:30 a.m. EDT in room SD-106 Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn has no public or media events on his schedule.

Acting Secretary of the Navy B.J. Penn, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead and Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James T. Conway testify at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee on Fiscal Year 2010 National Defense Authorization Budget Request from the Department of the Navy at 10 a.m. EDT in room 2118 Rayburn House Office Building.

 

Secretary of the Army Pete Geren and Chief of Staff U. S. Army General George W. Casey Jr. testify at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee on Fiscal Year 2010 National Defense Authorization Budget Request from the Department of the Army at 2:30 p.m. EDT in room 2118 Rayburn House Office Building.

 

Commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr. and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will participate in a media availability in Colorado Springs, Colo. at 2 p.m. MDT at NORAD/USNORTHCOM Headquarters, 250 Vandenberg Street, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.  Media organizations interested in receiving a live feed of the event should call Defense Visual Information Distribution System Master Control at (678) 421-6604 for questions and technical support.

 

A flag raising ceremony will take place on the Pentagon River Parade Field honoring those who have lost their life in the line of duty.  The ceremony starts at 11:30 a.m. and is the presentation of the United States Honor Flag between police ceremonial units from the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.  Journalists interested in attending the ceremony should contact Chris Layman 703-692-9101.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass need to arrive at LBJ Grove Parking Lot at 11 a.m.; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.
