Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz are in Washington today. There are no public or media events on their schedules.

Army officials will conduct a briefing on the interim brigade combat teams and the interim armored vehicle today at 10 a.m. in the DoD briefing room, Pentagon 2E781. Two of the vehicles will be displayed this morning on the Lower River Parade Field at the Pentagon. See the Army news release for details. [link no longer available]

The Navy conference on "Connecting Technology, Connecting People" ends today in Virginia Beach, Va. See the conference web site for details. [link no longer available]

There is no regular DoD news briefing today. The next regular briefing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. in the DoD briefing room, Pentagon 2E781. The briefer will be Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

Combined Endeavor 2001, a multinational communications and information systems interoperability exercise sponsored by the U.S. European Command and the German Ministry of Defense, continues through May 24 in Lager Aulenbach, Baumholder, Germany. The combined U.S., Australian and Canadian exercise Tandem Thrust continues through May 29 in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area of Australia. See the DoD news release and exercise web page for details.

DepSecDef to Host Honor Cordon for the MoFA of the Netherlands Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz will host an honor cordon to welcome Minister of Foreign Affairs Jozias van Aartsen, of the Netherlands, to the Pentagon at 1:30 p.m. EDT, Friday, May 18, 2001.

The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance....
