Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace testify at a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense at 10 a.m. EDT in room 192 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England has no public or media events on his schedule.

The Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) will conduct a full-scale bio-exercise on the Pentagon Reservation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT.  The exercise, called "Gallant Fox 06," is open for media coverage.   The purpose of this event is to enable PFPA and its federal, state, and local response partners to exercise an integrated public health and public information response to a bio-attack at the Pentagon.  See press advisory  for details.

Director of the Joint Staff National Guard Bureau Maj. National Guard (In Federal Status) and Reserve Mobilized as of May 17, 2006 This week, the Army, Air Force and Marine Corps announced a decrease in the number of reservists on active duty in support of the partial mobilization, while the Navy and Coast Guard numbers increased.   The net collective result is 857 fewer reservists mobilized than last week.
