Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz are in Washington today. There are no public or media events on their schedules.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Air Force "Hurricane Hunters" will discuss the upcoming hurricane season and their roles in hurricane forecasting, research and safety today at 10 a.m. at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington. The next regular DoD news briefing is scheduled for tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in the DoD briefing room, Pentagon 2E781. The briefer will be Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

Combined Endeavor 2001, a multinational communications and information systems interoperability exercise sponsored by the U.S. European Command and the German Ministry of Defense, continues through May 24 in Lager Aulenbach, Baumholder, Germany. The combined U.S., Australian and Canadian exercise Tandem Thrust continues through May 29 in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area of Australia. See the DoD news release and the exercise web page for details.

The armed forces of Thailand, Singapore and the United States are conducting exercise Cobra Gold in Thailand through May 29. See the exercise web site (no longer available) for details.
