Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz are in Washington today. There are no public or media events on their schedules.

The next regular DoD news briefing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 29, at 1:30 p.m. in the DoD briefing room, Pentagon 2E781. The briefer will be Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

Fleet Week, featuring ships from around the world, continues through May 29 in New York City. See the Intrepid Museum and Military.com web sites for details.

The combined U.S., Australian and Canadian exercise Tandem Thrust continues through May 29 in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area of Australia. See the DoD news release and the exercise web page for details.

GENERAL OFFICER APPOINTED TO RESERVE FORCES POLICY BOARD Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has announced the designation of Army National Guard Maj. Gen. H. Steven Blum as the Army National Guard member of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, effective May 1, 2001.

The 24-member board was created by Congress in 1952.
