Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz are in Washington today. There are no public or media events on their schedules.

Retired Air Force Gen. James P. McCarthy will conduct a press briefing on the results of the Defense Transformation Study today at 1:30 p.m. EDT in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E781. This special briefing will be in lieu of the regular DoD news briefing. See the press advisory for details.

The Current Strategy Forum begins today at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. This year's theme is "Defense Policy Challenges for the New Administration." See the forum web page for details. [link no longer available]

The International Human-Powered Submarine Races, a biennial engineering design competition at the Naval Surface Warfare Center's Carderock Division in Bethesda, Md., continue through June 15. See the race web site for details.
