Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Henry H. Shelton appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee today at 9 a.m. and before the House Armed Services Committee today at 2 p.m. See the Congressional schedule of events for details.

Rumsfeld will host a full honor arrival today at 11:30 a.m. EDT to welcome Minister of Defense Kim Dong-shin, of South Korea, to the Pentagon. A joint media availability at the River Entrance will follow the meeting, at approximately 1:15 p.m. EDT. See the press advisory for details.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz is in Washington today. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Army Lt. Gen. Joseph K. Kellogg, Jr., director of command, control, communications and computer systems (J-6), the Joint Staff, speaks this morning at a breakfast meeting in McLean, Va. See the event web page for details. [link no longer available]

Western Pacific Mine Countermeasures Exercise 2001, a 15-nation maritime exercise hosted by Singapore, continues through June 22 in the Western Pacific. See the Seventh Fleet news release for details.

Joint Patriot '01, a combined inter-service reserve forces exercise, continues through June 30 at several military sites across the United States. See the news release for details.
