Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will host a full honor arrival today at 11 a.m. EDT to welcome Director General of the Japan Defense Agency Gen Nakatani to the Pentagon. See the press advisory for details.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz is in Washington today. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Assistant Secretary of Defense Charles S. Abell will conduct a briefing today at 10 a.m. EDT in the DoD briefing room, Pentagon 2E781, on the Department's handling of overseas absentee ballots. See the press advisory for details.

David C. Gompert, president of RAND Europe, will conduct a briefing today at 1 p.m. EDT in the DoD briefing room, Pentagon 2E781, on the results of the conventional forces study. The eight-week study was conducted to provide the secretary of Defense with ideas and alternatives for future conventional forces. See the press advisory for details.

Western Pacific Mine Countermeasures Exercise 2001, a 15-nation maritime exercise hosted by Singapore, ends today in the Western Pacific. See the Seventh Fleet news release for details.

GUIDED MISSILE DESTROYER MASON TO BE CHRISTENED The Department of the Navy will christen Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer Mason (DDG 87) Saturday, June 23, 2001, during a 2 p.m. EDT ceremony at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine.

The Mason is named in honor of two previous ships of that name. The first Mason (DD-191)...
