Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen is in Washington today. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington today. Deputy Secretary de Leon will meet with and present awards to the top 12 military recruiters for fiscal 1999 at the Pentagon this morning. See the advisory for details.

The Navy will host an event at the Pentagon today at 10 a.m. to mark the fleet introduction of the Standoff Land Attack Missile - Expanded Response (SLAM-ER). See the advisory for details. [link no longer available]

The Army will announce the selection of the private development partner for the family housing privatization project at Ft. Hood, Texas today at 1 p.m. in the Pentagon. See the advisory for details.

The regular Department of Defense news briefing will be conducted today at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Mr. Kenneth H. Bacon, assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.
