Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta and other DoD/Army leaders attend a ceremony in the Pentagon Auditorium to induct Sgt. 1st Class Leroy A. Petry into the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes at 2 p.m. EDT. Following the ceremony, members of the media are invited to a press conference with Sgt. 1st Class Petry at 3 p.m. EDT in the Pentagon Briefing Room (2E973).

Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn has no public or media events on his schedule.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus delivers keynote remarks, and together with Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead and Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James Amos, participates in a ribbon cutting at the Tribute to African American Leadership ceremony in the Pentagon Courtyard 10:45 a.m. EDT. Under Secretary of the Navy Robert Work will also make welcoming remarks during the ceremony.  Journalists interested in covering this event should call the Navy Office of Information at 703-697-5342.

German Army Maj. Gen. Richard Rossmanith, International Security Assistance Force deputy chief of staff for stability, briefs the media live from Afghanistan at 10:30 a.m. EDT in the Pentagon Briefing Room (2E973) to provide an update on governance and stability efforts in Afghanistan. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call 703-697-5131 for escort into the building.
