Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates hosts an honor cordon to welcome Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to the Pentagon today at 4:30 p.m. EDT.  The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the Pentagon River Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort to the cordon. 

Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn has no public or media events on his schedule. 

Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen will host an honor cordon to welcome Denmark's Chief of Defense Admiral Tim Sloth Jorgensen to the Pentagon on Thursday, 23 July, at 11:00 a.m. The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance. Journalists who need an escort to the cordon should call Rick Ecker at 703-697-4292.  

Senior Materials Analyst, Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Industrial Policy) Rick A. Lowden and Administrator, National Defense Stockpile Center, Defense Logistics Agency Cornel Holder testify at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee on proposed reconfiguration of the National Defense Stockpile at 9:30 a.m. EDT in room 2118 Rayburn House Office Building.  

There will be a Arlington National Cemetery Flyover including 1 B-52 taking place at 1110 a.m. EDT and a second Arlington National Cemetery Flyover including 4 F/A 18’s taking place at 11:50 a.m. EDT.  

Air Force Vice Chief of Staff, Gen. William Fraser, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Lt. Gen. David Deptula, will discuss the importance, growth, and future projections for Air Force unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) operations.  The media event will take place in the Department of Defense Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973, on July 23 at 1 p.m. EDT.  Col. Eric Mathewson, Air Force UAS Task Force director, will then highlight the UAS Flight Plan that outlines a coordinated strategy for UAS integration across all Air Force core functions and articulates a common vision and prescribes critical first steps necessary for ensuring growing demands and contributions are maximized for the joint force.  Media are asked to contact Ed Gulick at Charles.gulick@pentagon.af.mil or the Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs office at 703-695-0640 for planning purposes or if they need an escort into the Pentagon.
