Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England have no public or media events on their schedules.
          
Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Lt. Gen (retired) James Clapper, Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Mary Beth Long, Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense Pete Verga, Deputy Director of the National Counterterrorism Center/Director of the Interagency Task Force on Homeland Threats Michael Leiter, and National Intelligence Officer for Transnational Threats Edward Gistaro will testify at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee on Implications of the National Intelligence Estimate regarding Al-Qaeda at 1 p.m. EDT in room 2118 Rayburn House Office Building.
      
Army Maj. Gen. David Rodriguez, commander of Combined Joint Task Force-82, and commanding general, 82nd Airborne Division, will brief live from Afghanistan at 9 a.m. EDT, July 25, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Afghanistan.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
