Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen will conduct a press briefing today at 3 p.m. EDT in the Department of Defense (DoD) Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call 703-697-5131 for escort into the building.

Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn has no public or media events on his schedule.

Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen will host an honor cordon to welcome Gen. Vlastimil Picek, chief of the general staff Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, to the Pentagon at 10 a.m. EDT.  The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance.  Photo and video opportunity only.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass should call 703-697-4272 for escort to the cordon.

Secretary of Defense Representative to post-START negotiations Edward L. Warner III testifies at a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee on new START at 9:30 a.m. EDT in room SD-G50, Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Peter Chiarelli will conduct a press briefing Thursday at 11 a.m. EDT to discuss the details of the Army’s Health Promotion/Risk Reduction/ Suicide Prevention Report.  This report is the result of a 15-month study to better understand the causes of suicide and other challenges facing the force.  The briefing will be in the Department of Defense (DoD) Briefing Room, 2E973.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call 703-697-3447 for escort into the building.
