Today in the Department of Defense, Monday, August 31, 2009 Bookmark and Share



Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates will visit Lockheed Martin’s Joint Strike Fighter factory in Fort Worth, Texas.  He will tour the facility, talk with employees and conduct a brief media availability.  The secretary will then travel to Greenville, Texas, to visit the L3 Communications plant where they are outfitting MC-12 Liberty aircraft with equipment for operations in Afghanistan.  Finally, the secretary will travel to Houston where he will participate in a “Helping a hero.org” presentation of keys to a home for a wounded warrior.  See press advisory for details.

Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn has no public or media events on his schedule. 

A National Capital Region Flyover, Arlington National Cemetery, will begin at 11:48 a.m. EDT with one C-130.

Brigade Commander To Brief Live From Iraq Army Col. Joseph Martin, commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, will brief live from Iraq at 10 a.m. EDT, Sept. 1, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq.
