Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Corps Gen. James E. Cartwright will host the Pentagon ceremony for National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the River Entrance Parade Field on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. EDT.  Retired Navy Adm. Jeremiah Denton, a former POW and senator, will be the guest speaker.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the Pentagon River Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort to the event.

Secretary Gates hosts an honor cordon to welcome Czech Republic Minister of Defense Martin Bartak to the Pentagon today at 3:30 p.m. EDT.  The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance.  Secretary Gates and Minister Bartak will hold a brief media availability on the River Entrance steps after their meeting. Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn, Secretary of the Army Pete Geren, and Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli will participate in a ceremony inducting Medal of Honor recip[ient Army Sgt. 1st Class Jared C. Monti into the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., EDT, Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at the Pentagon auditorium (6th corridor, basement level).  See press advisory for details.  

A National Capital Region Flyover of Arlington Cemetery begins at 11 a.m. EDT with four F-15E's.  A National Capital Region Flyover Joint Service Aerial Review over the Pentagon begins at 11:30 a.m. EDT with two F-16's (USAF), one F/A-18 (USN), one F-18D (USMC), and four UH-60's (USArmy) .  A National Capital Region Flyover of Arlington Cemetery begins at 3:05 p.m. EDT with one C-130.
