Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen is out of town for the weekend. On Monday, Oct 2, 5 p.m. EDT, Secretary Cohen will address the Center for Strategic and International Studies. See press advisory for details

Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Fifteen U.S. military athletes are competing as members of the U.S. Olympic team in the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia, through Oct. 1. See the news release for details.

The next Department of Defense news briefing will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Kenneth H. Bacon, assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.
