Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Michael Mullen speak at the U.S. Transportation Command change of command  ceremony at 8:30 a.m. EDT at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England has no public or media events on his schedule.

Army Maj. Gen. Jeffrey J. Schloesser, commander of Combined Joint Task Force-101, and commanding general, 101st Airborne Division, will brief live from Afghanistan at 10 a.m. EDT, Sept. 5, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Afghanistan.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
