Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates hosts an honor cordon to welcome Finland’s Minister of Defense Jyri Hakamies to the Pentagon today at 11:30 a.m. EDT. The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon Mall Entrance. Media must be at the Pentagon North Parking Entrance no later than 11 a.m. EDT for escort to the cordon.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England will make remarks at the Sept. 11 Memorial Site at 11:15 a.m.  Media are invited to photograph this stage of the construction and speak with family members and memorial fund representatives. Media will first pass through security screening in the South Pentagon Parking Lot. Parking will be available in a media lot at the South Pentagon Parking Lot. Media should contact DoD Public Affairs at (703) 697-5131 for access. 
 
Army Col. Stephen M. Twitty, commander of the 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division will brief live from Iraq at 9 a.m. EDT, Sept. 7, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
