Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen travels to New York City on Monday. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Armed Forces Voters Week -- "Your Voice, Your Choice" -- ends Saturday. For more information see the Federal Voting Assistance Program news release [link no longer available] and web page.

U.S military personnel and aircraft are participating in the Africa Aerospace and Defence 2000 international trade show and air show at Air Force Base Waterkloof, Pretoria, South Africa, through Saturday. See the news release for details.

CENTRASBAT 2000, a multinational peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance field exercise in Almaty, Kazakhstan, begins Sunday and continues through Sept. 18. See the news release and the Central Command web page for details.

The next scheduled DoD news briefing will be on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 2:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Kenneth H Bacon, assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.
