Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld is in Washington. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz and Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services at 10 a.m. EDT on U.S. military commitments and ongoing military operations abroad.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz will speak at the Tribute and Remembrance Reception and Pentagon Quilts Exhibit at 6 p.m. EDT at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetary. The event will feature an exhibit of some 100 of the quilts sent to the Pentagon from around the world in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Marine Corps Lt. Gen. James T. Conway, commanding general of the First Marine Expeditionary Force, will brief the media on his unit’s accomplishments during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. EDT in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E781. Media representatives without a Pentagon building pass who are interested in attending this event must have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification and be at the Pentagon North Parking Entrance by 12:30 p.m. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
