Chris Mewett is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Partnerships in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. He has policy responsibility for security cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and international humanitarian affairs.
Before joining the Department of Defense in this role, Mr. Mewett spent more than eight years as a Senate staffer, most recently as Legislative Director to Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut. He previously served as National Security Advisor to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, as a strategic planner and policy analyst in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Defense Exports and Cooperation, and as an export license analyst for the Navy International Programs Office.
Mr. Mewett has a BA in history from Texas A&M University and did graduate coursework in central and eastern European studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. He lives with his wife and two children in Washington, DC.
