Lane Bodian served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs. In this role, Lane advised the Secretary and Deputy Secretary on all matters related to the Department’s relationship with the legislative branch.
Lane joined the Department in May 2023 as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Senate Affairs. Lane facilitated engagement and legislative strategies that contributed to the success of the Department’s key priorities such as the National Security Supplemental, the Department’s legislative proposals to progress the AUKUS security partnership, and securing Senate support for the Department’s civilian and military nominees.
Prior to joining the Department, Lane worked in the Office of Senate Democratic Leader, Chuck Schumer, for over twelve years.
Most recently, he advised Leader Schumer on all foreign policy related matters, as his Foreign Policy Legislative Assistant. Lane was instrumental in developing and implementing Leader Schumer's national security priorities and advancing Democratic caucus foreign policy objectives, including humanitarian and security assistance to partners and allies.
Lane previously served as Legislative Aide to Senator Schumer on affordable housing and banking issues while the Senator was a member of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.
Lane began his tenure with Senator Schumer as Special Assistant, a role in which he acted as the Senator's liaison to New York business and community leaders and traveled with the Senator to all sixty-two counties in New York each year he served in that position.
Lane has a Master’s degree from the U.S. Army War College and a Bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall College. He was a 2021 National Endowment for Democracy Fellow.
