John Noh is Performing the Duties of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs. He was previously appointed as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia.
Previously, Noh served as Deputy General Counsel on the U.S. House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. He led projects that focused on U.S. and allied posture and strategy in the Indo-Pacific and conducted defense-focused engagements throughout the region. Prior to joining the Committee, Noh was an attorney in private practice and worked on cross-border investigations. Noh also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Texas where he prosecuted drug cartel cases.
Noh was an officer in the U.S. Army and served in Afghanistan as an infantry platoon leader. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Noh is a graduate of Brown University and Stanford Law School.
