The Honorable Steve Feinberg was sworn in as the 36th Deputy Secretary of Defense on March 17, 2025. In this role, he serves as the Department of Defense's chief operating officer, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the Department and executing the Secretary of Defense's strategic priorities.
A seasoned executive with extensive leadership experience, Feinberg founded Cerberus Capital Management in 1992. Under his leadership, Cerberus grew into a global investment firm with approximately $70 billion in assets. Over three decades, Feinberg led the company to become a global leader in an operationally-focused approach that developed and transformed all types of companies and assets across a wide range of industries.
Over the past decade, Feinberg led Cerberus to focus on the U.S. defense industry and investments that strengthen supply chain integrity.
In addition to his leadership at Cerberus, from 2018 to January 2021, Feinberg served as Chairman of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board, a longstanding body of national security experts and private sector leaders that provide U.S. Presidents with counsel on intelligence and related national security matters.
Deputy Secretary Feinberg is a graduate of Princeton University.
