Building Partnerships Around the Globe

State Partnership Program

National Guard helping build a structure.

The National Guard is "Always Ready, Always There," responding to disasters and other events at home, and ensuring the more than 453,000 Army and Air National Guard personnel are accessible, capable and ready to protect the homeland and provide combat ready resources to the Army and Air Force. Guardsmen also play a key role around the globe, partnering with nearly half the world's nations to advance peace and security.

What began with 13 partnerships in 1993 has grown to:

  • 88 partnerships

  • An average of two new partnerships each year

National Guard Seal

"It allows our soldiers and airmen to really visit a lot of other countries, to look at the environment that they operate in, and to really see, in many cases, the same problems — just approached from a different angle. We learn a lot in those countries and in those interactions that we bring back to make our organizations better, and I like to think vice versa."

Army Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson Chief, National Guard Bureau | May 9, 2022
