The figure was created for the 67th anniversary of the Allied invasion of France. Steele was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He pretended to be dead for two hours when his parachute became caught on the church steeple during the Allied invasion of France. Steel was eventually taken prisoner by German troops, but later escaped and rejoined his regiment.
