ONR and Stanford University Study Birds' Wings During Flight A parrotlet named Obie is outfitted with protective goggles during Office of Naval Research-sponsored testing at California’s Stanford University, April 18, 2017. Researchers there recently found a new way to precisely measure the vortices created by birds' wings during flight. The results shed greater light on how these creatures produce enough lift to fly -- and challenge the accuracy of three aerodynamics models long used to predict animal flight.
