CHRISTENING THE USS NEW YORK Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England speaks during the christening ceremony for the USS New York in Avondale, La., March 1, 2008. The ship is the fifth of nine San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships, and the first to be named after a state instead of a city. The vessel was named in remembrance of the victims of 9/11, and was built partly with steel from the ruins of the World Trade Center.
