ICE GAUGE U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Alexandre Leseur confirms his measurement was at least 60 inches of ice before moving on to the next location in Fairbanks, Alaska, Dec. 23, 2008. Leseur is assigned to the 354th Civil Engineer Squadron range maintenance, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. The ice bridge takes six to 10 weeks to complete in usually sub-zero weather. The ice bridge is a series of ice plateaus five-feet deep and 32 miles long. It is capable of supporting more than 110 tons.
