Secretary Cohen and Minister Scognamiglio sign letters of acceptance in the Pentagon. Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and Italian Minister of Defense Carlo Scognamiglio sign letters to their respective governments on the acceptance of the findings and recommendations of the bilateral Italian-U.S. Commission that assessed the corrective safety measures taken since the accident near Cavalese, Italy, at the Pentagon on April 16, 1999. Cohen and Scognamiglio have forwarded the Commission Report to President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema, who had asked that the Commission be formed. The Commission's report establishes new procedures and enhances cooperation between the Italian and U.S. militaries in order to improve flight safety.
