Staff Sgt. Enns washes the refueling boom of a U.S. Air Force KC-135R Stratotanker. Staff Sgt. John Enns washes the refueling boom of a U.S. Air Force KC-135R Stratotanker in the wash rack at RAF Mildenhall, United Kingdom, on May 12, 1999. The Stratotanker has been flying refueling missions in support of NATO Operation Allied Force which is the air operation against targets in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The aircraft is being prepared for a periodic maintenance inspection which normally takes six working days, but because of the increased operations tempo is being accomplished in three days with shifts around the clock. Enns is deployed from the 22nd Aircraft Generation Squadron, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., on a temporary basis to help the 100th Air Expeditionary Wing maintain it's tanker support for Operation Allied Force.
