ABOARD USS BATAAN (December 21, 1999) - Singer Mary Chapin-Carpenter relaxes with Lieutenant Max J. Wildermuth following her performance in the Christmas USO Show aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5). Carpenter was one of numerous celebrities in the holiday extravaganza hosted by U.S. Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen. Cohen's stop aboard Bataan was the first of several visits to military units operating through southern Europe and the Balkans during the Christmas and New Year's holiday season.
