Smith Jr. addresses the audience as the keynote speaker at the National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremonies held at the Pentagon, on Sept. 15, 2000. Smith, who flew F-105D fighter-bombers out of Takli Air Force Base, Thailand, during the Vietnam War, was shot down over North Vietnam in October 1967 and served 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war.
